$2 Million Awarded to Hood by Lt. Gov. Brown

Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown came to Hood College Thursday, April 15 to give the college $2 million to help fund an overhaul of the heating system, which currently is supported by an aging boiler.

Hosting a Governor for the first time since 2000, Hood was able to hold a successful ceremony and event.

Accalimed Author Speaks on Life's Difficulties

Elizabeth Gilbert, author of the highly acclaimed novel "Eat, Pray, Love" and one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people life visited Hood College on April 14th as part of the annual Frederick Reads Program.
Gilbert's book which chronicles her year long trips to Italy, Indonesia, and India, after her divorce, was on the New York Times Best Seller list for 158 weeks.

Hood Annouces New Provost

The wait is over; Hood now has a new provost. Dr. Katherine Conway-Turner accepted the position and will begin to fulfill her new responsibilities starting in mid-July.

After a long wait and review of the 180 applications and nominations Hood College has selected a well qualified and successful person to take on the position of Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Student Delegates Participate in Model United Nations

Disneynature Delivers With Earth Day Film

HCT Performs First Student Written Play

"Mermaid Avenue" was an original work written by the Hood College Theater Ensemble. It's a piece that is based off the first part of the music album of the same name by Woody Guthry, Billy Bragg and Wilco. Each member of the eight-person cast created the characters of the show after listening to the songs on the first part of the two-part album.

Graduate Student Presents Ceramic Art Exhibit

Artist Tegan Rice will present her exhibition of ceramic works inspired by vessels from around the world which have poured out our favorite drinks since pre-history.

The exhibit, "Containing History" will display the ceramic work of Ms. Rice in the Tatem Arts Center from July 9 to July 19 from 9a.

KFC's New Double Down? Deal Me In!

When I heard that KFC had made a sandwich that eliminated the only element not loaded with calories, most people were horrified. My reaction: I'll take two! While this sandwich has 32 grams of fat, which is over half of your recommended values per day, it also makes a bold statement; I'm a man, and I'm going to eat like one!

The TV ads for the sandwich clearly target males ages 18-35.

Not Down with KFC's New Double-Down

I have been an ardent opponent of Kentucky Fried Chicken's new Double Down sandwich since its introduction. It sounded like a joke, a very scary joke. Cheese, bacon and sauce sandwiched by two chicken breasts? All the Europeans can't truly be right? Could America really be that fat that it needs to replace the bread of its sandwiches with deep fried meat?

I ate the sandwich only so I could have a secure soapbox to stand on when I said in big, melodramatic capital letters "THIS SANDWICH IS THE WORST IDEA EVER CONCEIVED.

CAC Spring Championship Results

With the school year coming to a close, many athletic teams at Hood found themselves competing in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championships. Many teams overturned their results from last year and competed at a higher and involved level. The teams that highlighted the CAC Championships this April included the softball team, men and women's track and field, men and women's tennis, and men's golf.

The senior athletic banquet was a tremendous success, as the event had seniors from each team here at Hood. The banquet, which was held on Sunday, May 2, honored each senior's accomplishments for what each has done during their years here at Hood.

Senior track and field runner Jessica Parrish has won another Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) champion title at the track and field championship meet at Salisbury on April 17, and has earned her this Athlete of the Issue.

Parrish, who has only been running for six years, has captured her third straight 100 meter dash title, winning the gold medal.

Hood Clubs Host Tournament Games

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) kicked things into gear on April 18 as they held their first annual kickball tournament to help raise money for the organization.

With it being the first kickball tournament in school history, there was bound to be a couple things that didn't work out the way they had hoped.
